Coffee in Nicaragua

In March 2015 Carrie Bluth, in her final semester at MSU, visited Nicaragua. Her program included a three-day stay in the mountains on the Nicaragua-Honduras border where coffee production is critical to the local economy.  In this report Carrie vividly describes her encounter with Dennis Martinez, agronomist, farmer and community leader, and being struck by his “intimacy” with the land he farms.

This article ends on a sobering note that points in the direction of “Connected by Coffee”, the film that MAFTTI is encouraging to be shown because of the importance of its message, the need to go beyond Fair Trade if poverty is to be effectively combated.
